Every charter on Charter Captain is operated by an independent captain or boat owner. Charter Captain requires each Trip Operator to publish a specific cancellation policy — with concrete hour thresholds, a refund schedule, and deposit treatment — before their charters are bookable. The Trip Operator’s published policy is the binding policy for your booking.
If you cannot find a specific policy on the Trip Operator’s profile or at checkout, do not pay. Email info@chartercaptain.com and we’ll resolve it before your booking is confirmed.
Before any payment is taken, the Trip Operator’s policy is shown on the checkout page and repeated in your booking confirmation email. At minimum, it states:
The same policy appears on the Trip Operator’s profile so you can review it before you book.
When a refund is owed under the Trip Operator’s policy, Charter Captain processes it through Stripe back to your original payment method. Platform fees collected on a refunded phase are returned with that phase. Tips are fully refundable until the charter is completed.
Most Trip Operators reschedule for active NOAA Small Craft Advisories or unsafe on-water conditions. The decision rests with the captain on the day of your charter. If a charter is cut short after departure due to weather, the Trip Operator typically issues a partial refund for unused time — but the specifics are between you and the Trip Operator.
If you believe a Trip Operator hasn’t followed their published cancellation policy, email info@chartercaptain.com. Charter Captain will mediate between you and the Trip Operator.
See our Terms of Service for the platform’s overall role in bookings.
